The bad news: most of the games won’t work on MacOS. They’ve updated the games to work on “modern systems, but there’s a bit of a good news/bad news situation there. (For the unfamiliar: in the Myst universe, “Linking books” transport those that touch the book to a far-off destination.) Oh, and they built a friggin’ Linking book, complete with a 800×480 LCD screen that plays video fly-throughs of the game’s environments when the book is opened. Tiers above that include a bunch of real-world goodies, from a recreation of Gehn’s in-game pen/inkwell to original, hand-drawn concept art. $49 gets you digital copies of each game, while $99 gets you DVD copies in a box built to look like a Myst book.
On the last page is a check box which, if left checked, will attempt to open Myst V after you click "Terminuel" (sp?) or "Finish." We unchecked that box before finishing the program.ĥ) We restarted Windows and opened Myst V, which then ran fine.
Unfortunately, the language is French, but the lit radio buttons are the right ones to click as you progress through the app. On a Windows computer, you could just download the file to your hard drive, of course.ģ) We ran the "Scan and Fix" Windows routine on the flash drive before proceeding.Ĥ) Inside the unzipped " MystV_vistaSP1" folder is a " MystV_vistaSP1.exe" file. Here is the procedure that worked for us:ġ) Go to this Gamefront website and download the "Myst V Vista SP1 Patch."Ģ) In our case I was on my Mac, and downloaded this file to a flash drive, which I then inserted into the HP laptop's USB connector. The "Stack Error" message came up, and we have spent many hours online trying various fixes, none of which worked until now. Our HP Pavilion running 64-bit Windows 7 was once again an issue when wife attempted to start Myst V: End of Ages.
